Schemer Seven: Parquet

A recent revival of interest in parquet means designers now have many more options to choose from: new, restored, reinvented and even antique. Here’s our selection of the many choices now on the market.

This is a mix of American Cherry and Walnut in the Versailles formation, finished with Tung Oil Ultra Matt.

Danish company Junckers’ black oak larger sized staves, finished in Juncker’s own rustic black oil, offers a contemporary take on the much-loved herringbone parquet floor classic. Made in solid hardwood, each stave stems from a tree aged and shaped by the weather and seasoned for the best part of a century.

Perhaps better known for its rugs and carpets, Top Floor also offer a selection of quality all-timber engineered hardwoods, pre-finished and ready to install. This is the oiled wenge herringbone and is from £175 per square metre. Further patterned wood floor options come in teak and white oak.

This engineered, hardwood oak floor comes in three different unusual geometric modules for a truly modern parquet interpretation. Various designs can be achieved depending on how it is laid. By Daniele Lago, an Italian designer for Listone Giordano, it is available in the UK via tuttoparquet and is suitable for underfloor heating.

Urbane Living, on the Chiswick High Road, has various species of precision engineered timber plank flooring, such as wynch elm, jactoba and walnut, most of which can be set to the herringbone or chevron design, as shown here in oak. Genuine antique oak flooring, hand crafted from timber of up to 400 years old, the beautiful and battered Ruskin, is from Victorian Woodworks’ Grand Collection. It is available in regular or random width planks, parquet de Versailles or parquet de Chantilly panels, classic herringbone or chevron and continuous Versailles patterns.
