Joya’s overdying in vibrant colours brings a contemporary twist to mid-century oriental rugs. Joya work with the Instanbul craftsmen firsthand, choosing the right iconic patterns and punchy colourways, before bringing stock to the UK, for shorter lead times. Also available from The Furniture Cave on the Kings Road.
Amy Kent rugs are designed here in the UK and hand dyed and made in Varanasi, India, a region well known for its carpet making skills. They are individually hand knotted on looms using the Nepalese weave technique. Birds was part of the new collection launched at Decorex over the weekend.
Images of rocks and their shadows are scattered across the hand-tufted woollen Every Stone rug from award winning, London-based rug designer Top Floor. Its collections are created by design director Esti Barnes. The designs are available by the metre, and can be made bespoke to any size.
Launched at Design Junction at London Design Festival, Vortex is cluster of dynamic triangles forming an angular shaped rug in brave, bold colours by Sonya Winner. Based in Hampstead, Winner was recently awarded Best Pick at the Architectural Digest Show 2013 by the American Society of Interior Designers.
Bang on trend with its geometric shapes, Zig Zig rug is by Michelle Mason for Woven Ground. Available in a range of bold colours, they are flat weave, hand loomed using 100% New Zealand wool, featuring hand lashed edges for a unfringed, contemporary look.
Inspired by her own early morning close-up photography of windows wet with dew, Trickle is one of six designs in the brand new Glass Collection, by Tania Johnson. Johnson has previously designed rugs for the Home ranges for Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Vera Wang.
Originally from the Netherlands, Nicolette de Waart and her craft and furnishings company Design by nico has just launched the tactile Leaf Rug that brings a little bit of the outdoors indoors. 100% wool and available in spring greens, autumnal browns and yellows on white or black backgrounds.
