News: Government to restrict wood burning stoves
January 2019: New restrictions and legislation will affect the future of wood burning stoves and open fires. The government has set out its aim to reduce emissions from domestic burning within the recently published Clean Air Strategy 2019. To tackle the issue, the government will ensure only the cleanest stoves are available for sale by 2022 and will legislate to prohibit sale of the most polluting fuels. Burning solid fuels in homes make up 38% of the national fine particulate matter emissions. The new strategy also aims to tackle other harmful pollutants such as non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) that are present in a wide variety of chemicals found in carpets, upholstery, paint, cleaning, fragrance and personal care products.
