News: Sheffield Design Week

A new annual event will make its debut in June 2014

The city of Sheffield has announced the creation of Sheffield Design Week, starting in June 2014. The six-day event is intended to become an annual showcase for design, combining exhibitions, conferences, workshops and talks. The initiative has been coordinated by MADE NORTH, a non-profit initiative aiming to develop and promote design and related industries across the north. MADE NORTH has received funding from Arts Council England and is working with Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council on developing the event. MADE NORTH is seeking partners and sponsors to support Sheffield Design Week including individuals and organisations with ideas for their own events which would be delivered within the six day festival. To receive more information, go to the Sheffield Design Week website. MADE NORTH and Sheffield Design Week Director Patrick Murphy said: “This is a great opportunity for Sheffield to shout about its design credentials. Our theme is the question ‘can design change the world?’ and we will be exploring this across events, exhibitions and much more.”
