In Good Company: Andrew Hays, co-founder and director of Lanserring

Kitchens, furniture and lifestyle product company Lanserring is launching its first kitchen concept in late November. Andrew Hays, co-founder and director of Lanserring, discusses being a finalist at the Luxury Briefing Awards and his background in design for the performing arts.

November 2017

When was the company founded? Lanserring was officially founded in April 2017, the day before we were due to show our first product as part of the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibit at Salone del Mobile, Milan.

How many staff? We currently have nine staff members in London and 42 in our Austrian workshop, but we are expanding rapidly.

Where is it based? Our head office is in Notting Hill. We also have a working design-studio in Vienna, with two further studios opening in NYC and LA early in the New Year. Our workshop is in Riegersburg, Austria is 90 minutes from Vienna, at the foot of a magnificent medieval castle.

What is your latest significant achievement/project of note? It’s been such an exciting year with so many milestones, it’s almost difficult to say! From being a finalist at the Luxury Briefing Awards against Rolls-Royce and IWC to exhibiting at the MAK museum in Vienna. However, for me, the most special was when we hosted a launch event in the white hall of the castle that towers above our workshops in Austria. It was a very special experience.

I’ve just discovered… That a flat white tastes better in a paper cup… I opt for this even if I’m drinking in.

Who inspires me… Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci of DimoreStudio. I relate to their high theatricality, use of colour, texture and holistic approach to interior environments.

I’ve always been a fan of… Good lighting. Coming from a background in design for the performing arts, I discovered early on that lighting is pivotal in controlling the tone and emotion of a space, and therefore our level of connection and enjoyment. It is often overlooked, but it’s usually the place I begin when conceiving a space.

My highlight of the last 12 months… Definitely the night Lanserring was born. I remember the exact moment – in a wine bar in Austria with my partners Kimm Kovac, Bernd Radaschitz and Johann Radaschitz over a bottle of schnapps.

My next design trip is to… We are currently setting up our studio in New York City and on my next visit I am planning to head down to Design Miami. It’s a great event to discover something new and also escape the chill of London.
