For the first time The Ochre House is adding case goods to its trade-only furniture collection.

At Decorex, The Ochre House is launching its first collection of case goods as well as updating its existing upholstery offering aimed at interior designers. The business only started in April 2017, but the London based furniture producer hit the ground running with both directors Keiran Hewkin and Paul Fielden having gained valuable experience working at The Sofa & Chair company in Acton.

“I can’ t redesign the ergonomics of a sofa, they haven’t changed for hundreds of years,” Hewkin says. “The difference we can offer is service.”

There is a four to six-week turn around on the collection and six to eight weeks for bespoke pieces, which accounts for 80% of the business. Although, with a recently opened workshop in Croydon, the company can also offer a speedy three to four weeks on bespoke upholstery if necessary.

Production is primarily in Portugal, as Hewkin explains. “Portugal has everything you need to make pretty much any product in the interiors industry,” he says. “We have our own factory to produce the upholstery and because we are local we have been able to develop useful contacts in the area with metal workers, joiners and stone suppliers.”

The new pieces launching at Decorex include a dining table, sideboard, drinks cabinet and shelving unit. “The pieces are based on the themes and trends we have picked up from our bespoke work,” Hewkin says. “To make life easier for interior designers we have pre-selected stone, marble, veneer, wood and metal finishes and will hold the components in stock ready to assemble to order for a four to six week turnaround.”

After Decorex, the collection can be viewed at The Ochre House showroom on Tottenham Court Road.

In just over two years The Ochre House has grown and continues to develop. But what does Hewkin hope for the future? “I would love our core team that are here now to still be involved in this business in 20 years’ time,” he says. “That would be, for me, above all else, the mark of success. And the same for customers who we have been working with us from the start.

“For us it is about building that long-term value, building a business that is sustainable and continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
