CEDIA has announced a new series of virtual education events curated for the design community. Tech X Design, planned for Wednesday 23rd September and Tuesday 6th October, will offer two half-day programmes to provide designers and architects with an opportunity to learn how technology can add value to their projects and drive new business.
“CEDIA is committed to fostering an understanding of home technology with the design community — and providing a platform to learn, earn CPD points and have open discussions,” said Giles Sutton, CEDIA Senior Vice President of Industry Engagement. “Showcasing how other designers are working with home technology integrators is exactly the goal of Tech X Design. We’ll provide the forum and we want you to immerse yourself in the intersections shared when brilliant design and technology meet.”
Each programme will include a mix of panel discussions and professional development sessions, all of which are available free to attendees.
Giles adds, “I am particularly excited about the panel sessions that we have pulled together. The impacts of technology in the home are undeniable, but many times, designers and architects don’t know where to start. That is why we’ve set up each panel session to include professionals from the technology space and from the design community. Facilitating an open dialogue about what collaboration looks like is the first step to any successful project.”
Elspeth Pridham, Editor at Studio Magazine will moderate the Opening Panel session and top interior designer, Simone Suss from London-based Studio Suss will join the Closing Panel.
“We centre our designs around functionality of spaces and technology is a core element of that,” comments Simon Suss. “Understanding how the latest technology can be integrated into spaces and add value to our clients is a key part of the design process. Teamwork is vital to successful design and we refer to integrators for advice on how to incorporate the tech within the space. We often design joinery together with the integrators and cabinet makers to ensure that both technology and aesthetics are maximised without compromising the other. Whether it’s designing the latest home cinema to considering how to control the sound, heating, and lighting systems from your bed, we refer to the experts in home integration to provide us with the latest solutions.”
The 23rd September agenda includes:
• Opening Panel: Designing Lighting for Wellness
• Designing Home Cinemas and Media Rooms
• What is a Luxury Entertainment Space & How to Design for it
• Living in a Material World: Specifying Shade Fabrics to Meet Occupant Needs
• The Five Levels of a Smart Home
• Closing Panel: Successfully Integrating Technology with Design
