Leading British furniture maker Benchmark has been selected as a winner in the UK’s Wood Awards for the McChesney bench, in the Production: Furniture and Product category.
The Wood Awards encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation using wood.
The judges praised the McChesney Bench for the sophistication in its simplicity, with its soft curves and organic feel. Designed by the British architect Ian McChesney, the bench is generous in its proportions, providing a broad platform on which people can rest.
The bench curves softly and together with the natural oiled finish contribute to its organic feel.
The furniture and product judging panel is led by design critic, curator and journalist Corinne Julius. It includes Oliver Stratford, editor of Disegno magazine, Rod Wales of Wales & Wales, and previous winners Yael Mer of Raw-Edges, Eleanor Lakelin and Sebastian Cox.
