In 2020 Designers Guild celebrates 50 years in the interior business.

To mark this occasion, the company has announced that the Fashion and Textile Museum will be hosting a showcase of its work and a celebration of Tricia Guild’s contribution to interior design. Out of the Blue: 50 years of Designers Guild will open from 14 February – 14 June 2020.

What began as a small section of a single shop in Chelsea’s Kings Road in 1970 has since evolved into a global enterprise, changing the way in which people view colour, pattern and texture in their homes.

Founded by Tricia Guild OBE, visitors will be able to see first-hand where her inspiration comes from including her travels to India, Japan and Scandinavia and how that vision is translated into collections of fabrics, wallpaper, furniture and accessories.

The exhibition will also highlight the techniques and processes vital for making these collections happen and how Designers Guild has explored various printing techniques.

Visitors will see how traditional methods – from hand block printing in the early days, to rotary screen-printing and most recently digital printing have been used in a bid to create something new.

The exhibition will showcase the variety of designs and constant reinvention that is central to the ethos of Designers Guild.
