December 2018: The shortlist for the New London Architecture ‘Don’t Move, Improve!’ competition has been announced. 37 extension projects have been shortlisted, with Lewisham, Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Southwark identified as the most popular boroughs. The most common types of extensions are rear and side, with interior refits as befitting London’s semi-detached and terraced housing. Projects include Reuse Flat by Arboreal Architecture, a zero waste renovation, Chapel by Craftworks, a converted church as well as Scissor Truss House, a self-built extension to a dairy cottage by Studio MESH. Shad Thames Water Tower by FORMstudio and Highbury New Park by Appleton Weiner are also in the running. Winners will be announced on 22 January 2019, launching a three month exhibition.
