November 2018: The winners of the annual Wood Awards have been announced. The competition aims to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation using wood. The timber-framed and cladded home by Tonkin Liu architects, Old Shed New House, won the private category for its simplistic and modest design. Peter Marigold and Tadanori Tozawa, winners of the bespoke category, impressed the judges with the wabi-sabi allure of Cleft, a series of Japanese timber cabinets. Within the production category, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby were awarded for Ballot Chair, a handcrafted solid oak design that efficiently stacks. The student designer award was presented to Ellen Svenningsen for Objekt Board and the student designer people’s choice award went to Ben Smith for his Super Desk.
