It has been announced that this year’s Salone del Mobile, originally scheduled for April, has been postponed to June due to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
Milan’s mayor Giuseppe Sala said “The Salone was due to open on 21 April, but we have decided to postpone it for a couple of months. The new date is 16 June. I am calling on colleagues in the furnishing sector and the Salone del Mobile to pull together to make sure Milan doesn’t grind to a halt.”
The number of coronavirus cases has risen in Italy to 800 at the time this story goes live, with 11 deaths – nine of them from the northern Lombardy region where Milan is located. In total, 11 towns – home to around 55,000 people – in the region are on lockdown.
