Overall restaurant winner Garden Hotpot, Chengdu (top) is a remarkable open-air restaurant that snakes along the side of a lotus pond in a eucalyptus forest. MUDA-Architects had to preserve the existing trees and avoided constructing walls so that the resulting restaurant co-exists with nature. Decoration is minimal, confined to natural timbers and monastic white.
The overall bar winner, Inns Bar also in Chengdu (middle) is a whiskey bar for whiskey lovers. Wooton Designers chose a palette of golds, browns and coppers with curved furniture and ceiling to emulate the liquid, the aim was to create an immersive experience.
The overall UK Restaurant winner is the Clockspire in Sherborne, Dorset (bottom). One of Studio Indigo’s first forays into hospitality design. The original grade II listed building was constructed in the 1860s in a gothic style as the village school, but was closed in the 1980s and converted into offices. Studio Indigo uncovered many original features to create a bright, airy interior that mixes history and modernity.
Overall UK bar winner is the Berkeley Bar & Terrace at the Berkeley hotel London. Bryan O’Sullivan Studio designed every detail from the lighting and furniture to the accessories and the dynamic frieze on the wall resulting in a space that feels ‘special but not formal’
